Stone veneer gives a wall the look of solid stone at a fraction of the weight and cost. It fails when it is installed over an unsound substrate, without proper moisture management, or with the wrong mortar. Done right, it lasts decades and sheds water. Done wrong, it delaminates and pulls away. The substrate and the moisture barrier matter as much as the stone.
How we do it
- 1Evaluate the substrate and confirm it can carry the veneer and manage moisture.
- 2Install the moisture barrier, weep system, and lath where the wall requires it.
- 3Apply the scratch coat and let it set.
- 4Set the stone with mortar matched to the application, working from the bottom up.
- 5Joint, clean, and review the finished wall with you.

Stone veneer is priced by the square footage, the stone selected (natural vs. manufactured), the substrate preparation required, and the complexity of the layout. We give a written estimate after seeing the wall and the stone you want.

What is the difference between natural and manufactured stone veneer?
Natural stone is quarried and cut thin. Manufactured stone is cast from concrete in molds to imitate natural stone. Natural has more variation and depth; manufactured is lighter, less expensive, and more consistent. Both can look excellent when installed correctly.
Can stone veneer go over my existing brick or siding?
Often yes, if the substrate is sound and properly prepared with a moisture barrier and lath. We evaluate the existing wall first and tell you what preparation it needs before any stone goes up.
Why would stone veneer fall off a wall?
Almost always because of the substrate or moisture — no lath, no scratch coat, no weep system, or water trapped behind the stone that freezes and pushes it off. The stone itself is rarely the failure. We build the wall system, not just the surface.
Is stone veneer rated for Indiana winters?
Yes, when installed with proper moisture management over a sound substrate. Water behind the veneer is what fails in this climate, so the barrier and weep system are the parts that matter most.
