An outdoor fireplace, fire pit, or kitchen is masonry that takes heat, weather, and use all at once. It fails when the firebox is not built with firebrick and refractory mortar, when the structure is not drained, or when the materials are not rated for severe weathering. Building one well means engineering for all three — heat, water, and load — at the same time.

What it costs to think about
Outdoor features are priced by the size and complexity, the materials, the firebox construction, and the facing. A fire pit and a full outdoor kitchen are very different scopes. We give a written estimate after discussing what you want.

Do I need firebrick in an outdoor fireplace?
Yes, in the firebox. Firebrick and refractory mortar are rated for direct heat; ordinary brick and mortar will crack and spall from the heat. The outside of the structure can be standard masonry; the inside where the fire burns must be fire-rated.
Can you build an outdoor kitchen with a grill and counter?
Yes. We build the masonry structure — the base, the counter, the facing — and coordinate the cutouts and utilities for the grill and components you select. The masonry is engineered to carry the load and shed water.
Do outdoor fireplaces need a footing?
Yes. An outdoor fireplace is heavy masonry and needs a footing below frost depth, or it will settle and crack. The footing is part of the build, not an add-on.
Will an outdoor fireplace match my home?
